How Long Does the Process Take?

Generally speaking, many adults can anticipate a treatment duration ranging from 12 to 18 months for comprehensive treatment, and much less for partial treatment or touch ups.     The aligners are manufactured by Invisalign, but the treatment is planned out and created by our doctors.  Every movement and detail of the aligners is customized by our doctors for each patient. 

  • Is the process painful?

    While some discomfort is expected in any orthodontic treatment, most of our adult patients report no discomfort with clear aligners!  Discomfort is considerably less than traditional braces, primarily since there are no wires or brackets involved.

  • How often should I wear my aligners?

    For the best results, you should aim to wear your clear aligners for about 21 to 22 hours daily. They should be removed for eating, drinking anything other than water, brushing, and flossing.

  • What if I misplace an aligner?

    If you happen to lose an aligner, reach out to Varone Orthodontics immediately. Depending on your treatment stage, we might advise using a previous set or progressing to the next one.

  • How frequently are check-up visits?

    While clear aligners often demand fewer visits than traditional braces, you should still expect to come in for a progress check every 10-12 weeks.

  • Will wearing aligners affect my speech?

    Some patients experience a slight lisp when they first begin wearing their aligners. However, this is typically temporary and subsides as your tongue adjusts to the aligners.

  • How do I clean my aligners?

    Cleaning your clear aligners is straightforward. Rinse them with lukewarm water, and use a soft toothbrush to gently brush them. Avoid using hot water as it can warp the plastic.

  • Can I drink with my aligners in?

    It's recommended to only drink water when wearing your aligners. Colored or sugary beverages can stain the aligners or lead to tooth decay.
